"Groupthink" And Topical Steroid Withdrawal - Moisturizer Withdrawal

I think it's WAY past time I point this out since "Groupthink" is apparently a very little understood phenomenon amongst the topical steroid withdrawal community. This especially pertains to the issue of whether to moisturize or not, and other important things that affect comfort and quality of life during recovery from topical steroid poisoning. Things like what to expect, and how to best deal with the various aspects of TSW, etc., etc. Hopefully this will enlighten at least a few people.

From Wikipedia

Groupthink is a psychological phenomenon that occurs within a group of people, in which the desire for harmony or conformity in the group results in an incorrect or deviant decision-making outcome. Group members try to minimize conflict and reach a consensus decision without critical evaluation of alternative ideas or viewpoints, and by isolating themselves from outside influences.

Loyalty to the group requires individuals to avoid raising controversial issues or alternative solutions, and there is loss of individual creativity, uniqueness and independent thinking. The dysfunctional group dynamics of the "ingroup" produces an "illusion of invulnerability" (an inflated certainty that the right decision has been made). Thus the "ingroup" significantly overrates their own abilities in decision-making, and significantly underrates the abilities of their opponents (the "outgroup").

Antecedent factors such as group cohesiveness, faulty group structure, and situational context (e.g., community panic) play into the likelihood of whether or not groupthink will impact the decision-making process.

  1. If we are talking psychology, YOU may benefit from reading this article.

    1. Anonymous, Groupthink is a psychological phenomenon commonly found in most "groups", especially groups that control what information is shown to the "group" and what isn't shown. At least I have the balls to put my neck on the chopping block for my beliefs. You, on the other hand, only put others heads on the chopping block, but never your own. This type of anonymous posting reminds me of people who hide in their holes only to come out of hiding to take pot shots at people and run back to their hole. Which reminds me of people like serial killers, rapists, etc. If you don't have the balls to identify who you are, don't post here. This blog is for informational purposes only and not for marginalizing people for their beliefs. Or put downs. If you have something of value to add please do. And do it under a name that identifies who you are.

  2. LOL! I read it and it doesn't fit me at all. Neither does narcissism. And neither does "Groupthink" lol....So sorry. Thank you for showing an example of how "Groupthink" affects people. And how ironic is this? You can post here but I can't post on your forum. Hmm...
